An Interview With Our Lead Physical Therapist Gina!

Keep reading to learn how Gina found a balance between her love of dancing and helping others!

What or who inspired you to choose your career path?

I discovered physical therapy after I made the decision to no longer pursue dance professionally. I knew I wanted to keep dance in my life, but I also felt gravitated toward pursing healthcare in some way. I was torn until my mom said to me "if you become a physical therapist, you could help a lot of dancers". And the rest is history!

Why do you love what you do?

I love what I do because my work allows me to positively impact someone's quality of life. And in today's world, I want nothing more than to help someone re-establish joy in what is truly important, such as holding their grandchild, going on a hike, performing on stage, or playing with their kids. What is a frustration for you in your field, or something you wish the general public could know about what you do?

One frustration in our field is the misconception that just because physical therapy isn't always a CURE, then it won't help you. The primary goal is improving pain and quality of life. Whether it's a chronic condition, autoimmune, or even severe OA, there are many methods that we utilize to help improve function and pain so you can get back to life again. Charleston is a hot spot destination, what is one of your go-to places for food, a drink, or entertainment?

I've lived in Charleston for over 3 years now and some of that time was during the pandemic, so I feel like I've been catching up on checking out the hot spots in the area. One of my favorite places so far is Estuary Beans & Barley in Johns Island... best local beer in my opinion! What book are you currently reading?

I've recently joined a book club for the first time (something I've always wanted to do) and we're reading "The Great Alone" by Kristin Hannah. It's about a family who seeks a new beginning in an isolated town in Alaska. So far it's a good read, but I enjoy books that are hard to put down and suspenseful.
