An Interview With Our "Fancy Feet" LMT, Laura
Keep reading and get to know more about our latest #GalSquad member and LMT extraordinaire, Laura.

What or who inspired you to choose your career path?
When I was very young my mother was in a bad car accident causing her lifelong chronic pain due to severe whip lash. My mother chose to manage that pain with chiropractic care and massage. Because of this I was introduced to chiropractic at age 8 and then received my first massage at age 15. I can’t remember my initial response to chiropractic but my first massage is something I will never forget! That is what made me choose this path. I truly want to help people who are dealing with chronic pain find relief.
Why do you love what you do?
Again, I just want to help people manage their pain. As someone who also suffers from chronic pain I know firsthand the power and magic massage can have. There are so many different modalities/approaches associated with healing movement so there is always something new and exciting to learn. Our bodies are amazing and fascinating things!
What is something surprising you have learned in your field if anything?
A lack of collaboration from the different fields, all claiming to have a similar goal. That is why I’m so excited to have the opportunity to work with Joint Effort. It just makes sense to have these different fields of bodywork under one roof, truly working together towards the same goal!
What is frustrating for you in your field, or something you wish the general public could know about what you do?
I would really like for people to feel comfortable communicating and guiding their sessions. All the techniques we gain through training provide us, the therapists, with great treatment tools but to really know which tools are most useful to the individual client requires feedback!
Charleston is a hot spot destination, what is one of your go-to places for food, a drink, or entertainment?
I would never call myself a foodie so I don’t have a go-to place for food or drinks but as for entertainment, I’d have to say the Pour House in West Ashley. The patio has a really fun vibe, the indoor space has great acoustics and the booking agent really seems to have a knack for finding talented entertainers.
What book are you currently reading?
I just read How To Stop Time by Matt Haig. My favorite music artist is definitely Bjork! I've loved her from day 1 and that has never wavered!
